What We Get Out of Highschool: Suffering
Proposal
I’m going to be making individual, customized class rings for every senior in our grade that would like one. I will have seniors sign up online through my website if they would like a ring, and then meet with everyone in person for about three minutes to get the details I need from each person. Once I have all the information I need (such as size, design, stone, etc.) I will be able to figure out how many of each design type I will need a copy of. I’ll then use the wax carving models, which I’ve already started making, and attach them to sized wax rings. From that point, I will get Mrs. Sullivan’s help to make molds of my designs and pour for the desired number of copies. These copies, as well as unused sterling silver granules, will be taken to a professional casting facility. Because we don’t have the equipment to cast silver at school, I will meet with the metalsmith at JR Casting in San Francisco, and she will be able to use a “tree” casting method to pour the copies in the silver. I will also carve or engrave any unique details (such as names or images) depending on the senior. Finally, I will create a setting (like a facet) for each ring, and set whichever stone the senior had picked out. I intend to give all the seniors their rings after senior project presentations.
